Glass Effect

Create a new document and create a new layer (Shift+Ctrl+N). On the new layer, use the Pen tool (P) to draw the shape of the glass.

With the new layer selected, add a Gradient Overlay layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Gradient Overlay) with the following properties:

Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 100%
Gradient: Black to White
Reverse: Unchecked
Style: Linear
Align with Layer: Checked
Angle: 90º
Scale: 150%

Apply a Color Overlay layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Color Overlay) with the following properties:

Blend Mode: Overlay:
Color: Select the colour you want the glass to be. To create a glass without any colour, use the colour #808080.
Opacity: 100%

Add an Inner Shadow layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Inner Shadow) with the following properties:

Opacity: 20%
Angle: 90º
Use Global Light: Checked
Distance: Increase the distance to increase the size of the reflection
Choke: 0%
Size: 0px

To add an inner bevel effect, add a Bevel and Emboss layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Bevel and Emboss) with the following properties:

Style: Outer Bevel
Technique: Chisel Hard
Depth: 1%
Direction: Down
Size: 0px
Soften: 0px
Angle: 90º
Use Global Light: Checked
Altitude: 30º
Gloss Contour: Linear
Anti-aliased: Checked
Highlight Mode: Screen
Highlight Color: White
Opacity: 75%
Shadow Mode: Multiply
Shadow Color: Black
Opacity: 75%

Adding a glass effect using layer styles not only saves time, but allows you modify the style settings.
