Creating Your Document

Create a new document (Ctrl + N) with the dimensions 800 x 600 pixels. Fill your background layer with your desired color.

Creating Your Mouse Shape

Select the "Pen Tool" (P) with the following settings.

Once you've applied the settings begin to draft out your mouse shape. Start off with a straight edge at the top then round the side off, when you get to the bottom make a straight line to the top making a lung type shape. We'll start off with half of the mouse first then duplicate the path to give the mouse good symmetry.

Once your happy with the overall shape of the mouse, select all your anchor points by holding down the "Ctrl Key" whilst holding down your left mouse button and dragging a marquee over the whole shape. Now copy "Ctrl + C" and paste "Ctrl + V" the path. We now need to flip the path horizontally, straight away after pasting your path go to "Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal". Now move your pasted path next to your original.

Adding The Mouse Layer Styles

Add the following layer styles to your mouse shape.

You should have something like this.

Creating The Shininess

Label your mouse layer "Mouse" then duplicate it and label the duplicated layer "Shine 1?. Clear all the layer styles from the "Shine 1? layer by right-clicking the layer then selecting "Clear Styles". For the shininess to work your duplicated shape has to be white (#ffffff), if it's now white already add a "Color Overlay" or simply double click on the layer thumbnail and change the color from there.

Once you've changed the color, free transform the shape by selecting the "Free Transform Tool" (Ctrl + T). Resize the shape a little bit then move the shape up so the flat edge is at the top.

Now that the shape has been resized set the opacity to 15%. You should have something like this.

Duplicate your "Shine 1? layer then rename the duplicated layer to "Shine 2?. Set the "Shine 2? layers opacity to 50% then free transform the layer by selecting the "Free Transform Tool" (Ctrl + T). Resize the shape a little bit then move the shape up so that the flat edge is at the top.

We need to repeat these steps once more only this time the duplicated layer will be a lot smaller.

Creating The Mouse Buttons

Select the "pen Tool" (P), starting from the top your mouse shape create like an upside down letter "T". Name this layer "Lines".

Once you've created the shape add the following layer styles.

You should have something like this.

Creating The Mouse Wheel Indent

Select "Ellipse Tool" (U) then drag out an ellipse on a layer called "Wheel Indent" underneath your "Lines" layer.

Once your happy with your ellipse add the following layer styles.

You should have something like this.

Creating The Mouse Wheel

Duplicate your mouse wheel indent layer then clear the layer styles by right-clicking and selecting "Clear Styles". Label your new layer "Mouse Wheel" then drag the layer above your "Lines" layer.

Now add the following layer styles to your "Mouse Wheel" layer.

You should have something like this.

Creating The L.E.D Light

Select the "Ellipse Tool" (U), then drag out a small ellipse in the middle of the mouse. Label your ellipse layer "Light".

Once you've created the ellipse add the following layer styles.

You should have something like this.

Final Details, Light Effects

Select the "Pen Tool" (P) change your settings to "Paths" then select a 1 pixel brush. Finally set your foreground color to white (#ffffff).

In the bottom left side of the mouse create a short line using your paths.

Once your happy with your line right click and select "Stroke Path" from the menu. Once the stroke has been added right click again and select "Delete Path". You should have something like this.

Add a layer mask to your stroke layer then with the gradient tool using a linear gradient, drag the gradient from the top of the white stroke down so the end of the line blends in with the mouse. Right click your mask and go to "Apply Layer Mask". Repeat the process again for the bottom half of the line.

Repeat the whole process again only this time on a different part if the mouse.

Select the "Elliptical Marquee Tool" (M) then create a small ellipse over your mouse wheel.

Fill (G) your ellipse with the color white (#ffffff) then apply a guassian blur by going to "Filter > Blur > Guassian Blur", blur the ellipse by around 3.5 - 4 pixels. Once you've added the blur filter add a outer glow using the settings below.

The final result should look something like this.
