Dark Shadows


Create dark shadows to hide detail.


image 1 1. Open the image for editing.

image 2 2. Duplicate the current layer (Ctrl+J).

image 3 3. With the top layer selected, apply a Neon Glow filter (Filter> Stylize> Neon Glow) with the following properties:

Glow Size: 5
Glow Brightness: 15
Glow Color: Black


image 4 4. Invert (Ctrl+I) the current layer.

image 5 5. Add a layer mask (Layer> New Layer Mask> Reveal All) to the current layer.

image 6 6. With the layer mask selected, use the Apply Image tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:

Layer: Merged
Channel: RGB
Invert: Checked
Blending: Normal


image 7 7. Change the blending mode of the current layer to Soft Light.

Dark Shadows 8. Rollover the image in this step to see the original image before this Photoshop technique was applied.
