Reduce reflection and glare and enhance blue skies and trees.

1. Open an image to edit. |

2. Create a new layer (Shift+Ctrl+N). |
 |
3. With the new layer selected, use the Apply Image tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:
Layer: Merged Channel: Red Invert: Unchecked Blending: Multiply Opacity: 100% |

4. Change the image mode to Lab Color (Image> Mode> Lab Color). |
 |
5. A warning will appear asking if you would like to flatten the layers or not. Select Don't Flatten. |
 |
6. Duplicate the Background layer (Ctrl+J). |
 |
7. With the middle layer selected, select the Lightness channel (Ctrl+1). |
 |
8. With the lightness channel selected, use the Apply Image tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:
Layer: Layer 1 Channel: Lab Invert: Unchecked Blending: Normal Opacity: 100% |

9. Select back the Lab channel (Ctrl+~). |
 |
10. Delete the top layer and add a layer mask to the Background copy layer (Layer> Layer Mask> Reveal All). |
 |
11. Using the Eraser tool (E), erase the areas in the layer mask where you do not want this effect to be applied. This effect reduces the saturation of red and you can fix this problem by erasing areas that are red. |
 |
12. To reduce the overall strength of the polarize effect, reduce the Opacity of the top layer. |
 |
13. Change the image mode back to RGB Color (Image> Mode> RGB Color). Rollover the image to see the original image without this effect applied. |
