Removing Red Eye For All Eye Colours


Traditional red eye removal techniques only works for people with dark coloured eyes. In this tutorial, you will learn how to use a layer mask to remove red eyes for every eye colour.


image 1 1. Open the image for editing. For this tutorial, select an image with red eyes.

image 2 2. Duplicate the "Background" layer (Ctrl+J).

image 3 3. Use the Hue/Saturation tool (Ctrl+U) to set the "Saturation" to "-100". Click OK.

image 4 4. Add a layer mask to the current layer (Layer> Add Layer Mask> Reveal All) and change the blending mode to "Difference".

image 5 5. With the layer mask selected, use the "Apply Image" tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:

Source: filename
Layer: Merged
Channel: RGB
Invert: Uncheckmarked
Blending: Normal
Opacity: 100%


image 6 6. Change the current layers' blending mode to Normal.
