Checkered Text


We'll begin this tutorial, by changing the foreground to black, then go ahead and choose the text tool. I chose "Creaminal" as the typeface at a size of 54 and adjust the tracking to 40. Now type "icons" or something that you like better.

Now create a new document. Size 72 pixels by 72 pixels. Following the illustration below create a pattern as I have done. Once pattern is complete, go to the main menu and select "Edit" then "Define Pattern." Give it a name of your choice and click "OK."

Go back to the text document, then follow the steps below:

Now right click the text layer and select, "Blending Options...". Now click on "Drop Shadow".

Do not click "OK" as of yet. Still more to do.

Now click on "Inner Glow".

Do not click "OK" as of yet. Still more to do.

Now click on "Pattern Overlay" and select the pattern that you previously made.

Do not click "OK" as of yet. Still more to do.

Now click on "Stroke".

You may now click "OK."

You should now have the following:

Now "Ctrl" click the text layer to create a selection around it and create a new layer. Go to the main menu and click on "Select" then "Modify" and lastly "Contrast" and set it to 1.

Fill with white and turn the opacity down to about 40%.

The Results!!!

As you can see, I have added a graphic that I previously made, to replace the "o". I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
