Explosion Effect

In this tutorial you'll learn how to make realistic looking explosions in Photoshop.

1.) First off all create a new Document 500 x 500 px. Set the Backgroundcolor to black.

2.) Now, choose the Lasso Tool and make a selection with irregular edges, just like I did in this tutorial.

3.) Fine. Now choose Red (255, 00, 00) as your foregroundcolor and yellow (255, 255, 00) as your backgroundcolor. Now use the Clouds-rendering filter>:
Filter > Render > Ñlouds

4.) Deselect your Selection and use the Gaussian Blur Filter
Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Set it's Radius to 40.

5.) Here we go. Create a new Layer. Layer > New > Layer.
Hit "D" on your keyboard to get the Standart colors ( black / white ).
Now use the Clouds-rendering filter again:
Filter > Render > clouds

6.) Now go to the Layermodes and choose Color Dodge as mode. To get it even more realistic try to experiment with the opacity or moving your effect layer.
