Quick & Easy Candy Cane Text


Lets Get Started, Creating Your Document

Create a new document (Ctrl + N) 800x600 pixels with a transparent background. Fill (G) your background with any color then add the following gradient overlay to your background layer.

Your background should look something like this.

Creating The Stripes Pattern

Before we start creating our text we must first create our stripes pattern. Create a new document (Ctrl + N) 15x15 pixels then replicate the image below.

Once you've replicated the image above go to "Edit > Define Pattern", save your pattern as diagonal lines then head back to your original canvas.

Creating The Bottom Half Of The Text

Select the "Type Tool" (T) then type out your word onto your canvas. The font I've used is called "RockoUltraFLF".

Once you've added the text to your canvas add the following layer styles.

You should have something like this.

Create a new layer above your text layer and label it pattern. We now need to load a selection around the text layer, to do this click the little thumbnail in the layers window whilst holding down the ctrl key on the keyboard. Once the selection has been loaded select the "Paint Bucket Tool" (G), select your pattern from the menu at the top.

Fill (G) the selection with your pattern.

Now add a gradient overlay to your stripes layer using the settings below.

You should have something like this.

Creating The Top Half Of The Text

Duplicate your text layer then drag it to the top of the stack. Right-click the duplicated text layer then select clear layer styles from the menu, now select the "Move Tool" (V). With the arrows on the keyboard press the left arrow key once and then the top arrow key twice, doing so should shift your text.

Next, add the following layer styles to your duplicated text layer.

You should now have something like this.

For this next part we just need to add out pattern once more by re-following steps we took the first time round.

Creating The Snow

Select the "Lasso Tool" (L) then make small random selection over the top parts of the text.

When your happy with your selection fill (G) the section with the color white #ffffff.

Now add a inner shadow to the snow layer using the settings below.

Conclusion

Your finished result should look something like this.
