Create a mythical glowing glyph.
01. Take a brush and set 'Fade' to around 150px (under Shape Dynamics). Draw a stroke.

02. Copy the stroke and rotate it 3 times so you have a cross.

03. Use the smudge tool to create little details.

04. Duplicate your cross layer and go to Filter --> Blur --> Gaussian Blur and set the 'Radius' to 1.5 - 2.0. Place this new layer above the old cross layer.

05. Take your original cross layer, and add a 5px Outer Glow.

06. Duplicate the glowing cross layer and add a 10px Outer Glow. Place this layer below the original glowing cross layer.

07. Duplicate the glowing cross layer again and add a 20px Outer Glow. Place this layer below the second glowing cross layer.

08. Select your original cross layer and Ctrl+click or use the magic wand to get a selection of the cross. Then go to Select --> Inverse or Ctrl + Shift + I to select the inverse. Create a new layer above all your other layers. Go to Render --> Clouds. Then go to Render --> Difference Clouds a few times.

09. Set the blending mode of the clouds layer to color dodge.
