Double exposure

If your digital camera does not have a double exposure or multiple exposure setting, use this tutorial to merge two images together.

	1. Open the image that will be the first exposure.
	2. Open the image that will be the second exposure. With the windows cascaded (Window> Arrange> Cascade), drag the second exposure image to the first exposure window while holding the shift button to create a new layer in the first exposure.
	3. Add a layer mask to the second exposure (Layer> Add Layer Mask> Reveal All).
	4. With the second exposure layer's layer mask selected, use the "Apply Image" tool to apply the following settings: Source: filename Layer: Background Channel: RGB Invert: Unchecked Blending: Normal Opacity: 100% Mask: Checkmarked Layer: Background Channel: Gray Invert: Checkmarked Click OK.
	5. Try inverting the second exposure layer's layer mask for a different effect. Rollover the image on the left of this step to see the original image before this technique was applied.

While the most common way of creating a double exposure is by using a different blending mode on the top layer and adjusting its opacity, this method accurately simulates how a camera takes a double exposure. A layer mask is created so that the second exposure will blend into the first exposure according to the brightness of the first exposure.
