Increase contrast without underexposing and losing detail in dark areas.

1. Open the image for editing. |

2. Add a new "Brightness/Contrast" layer mask (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Brightness/Contrast). Select a "Contrast" value and click OK. |

3. Select the layer mask and use the "Apply Image" tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:

Click OK. |

4. Rollover the image on the left of this step to see the original image before this technique was applied. |
