Increasing Contrast Using a Layer Mask

Increase contrast without underexposing and losing detail in dark areas.


image 1 1. Open the image for editing.

image 2 2. Add a new "Brightness/Contrast" layer mask (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Brightness/Contrast). Select a "Contrast" value and click OK.

image 3 3. Select the layer mask and use the "Apply Image" tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:

Source: filename
Layer: Background
Channel: RGB
Invert: Uncheckmarked
Blending: Multiply
Opacity: 100%

Click OK.
