Disney Purchases Children’s Site Kerpoof

Disney.com has announced that it has purchased Boulder-based Kerpoof Studios, a developer of online tools that allows children to create artwork, write short stories and make short movies.

Disney Interactive Media Group purchased Kerpoof last July, but an official announcement was not made until this week. Terms of the deal were not released.

Kerpoof technology has been integrated into Disney.com Characters portal. When users visit pages for the characters such as Mickey and Friends, they will be able to create their own customized pictures using an intuitive graphical interface. Once a custom picture has been created users can choose from a variety of print options including a black-and-white coloring page.

"The innovative approach to online content creation coming out of Kerpoof Studios is a great addition to Disney.com," said Paul Yanover, executive vice president and managing director, Disney Online.

"The development of personalized, interactive entertainment is opening many new opportunities for the Disney brand."

Kerpoof Studios will continue to operate Kerpoof.com. Kerpoof will remain in Boulder. Krista Marks, co-founder of Kerpoof, has been named General Manager of Disney Online Kerpoof Studios.

Marks attributes Kerpoof's success to "its unwavering commitment to changing the way kids interact with computers."
