Today, sometime between 12:00 and 2:30 EST, Apple is releasing the OS 3.0 software update for the iPhone. Like most things from Apple, this release has some really great features, which I'll get to in just a moment.


The free OS update gives older iPhones the ability to run next gen iPhone apps (some features are not available for the first gen iPhones).

There are literally dozens of new features for the iPhone with this update, but we'll only be discussing the best of the best.

• Cut, Copy & Paste - Not sure why this wasn't in previous OS releases
• Landscape Keyboard - This makes typing much easier
• Tethering - Tether with laptops for Internet while traveling
• YouTube Login - Easily see your favorite YouTube videos
• Push Notifications - Now you'll know when someone is talking to you
• Shake to Shuffle - Simply shake your iPhone for a new song

iPhone 3.0 will be available for all iPhone, iPhone 3G's and iPod Touches. It should be noted that the 3.0 OS update for the iPod touch is NOT free , it will set you back $9.95.
