Movie Symbols

Intro

Movie Symbols provide you with a method to make animations without altering the main timeline. It will simply be running on its own timeline within itself. It reduces the clutter and helps with accessibility. This tutorial demonstrates how to make an animation in a movie symbol.

Step 1

This tutorial covers how to make and use Movie Symbols. First, create a document and draw an oval. Press F8 and convert it to a Movie Symbol.

Step 2

Now double click this oval. You are now in the symbol stage. This stage allows you to alter the object with its own timeline without effecting anything on the main stage. Make two layers and draw one wing on each layer to complete your bird. Press F8 and convert each one to a Graphic Symbol.

Step 3

Select your wing at frame one and move it's pivot point to the bottom corner. If it's the left wing, move the pivot point to the bottom right. If it's the right wing, move it to the bottom left. Do this for both wings. Pivot point looks like a white circle. Check the picture.

Step 4

Now create a key frame at frame 15 for both wings. Also, make a key frame at frame 30 for the body so you can see it while we edit the wings. At frame 15, select a wing and rotate it down. Do the same for both wings. Now apply a motion tween on both wings between frames 1 and 15.

Step 5

Now create another keyframe at frame 30 for both wings. On this frame, re-rotate the wings back to their original positions. Make sure they look exactly the same as they do on frame one.

Step 6

Go back to the main scene by clicking "Scene 1" up at the top. Now create a keyframe at frame 30(Where we ended our movie animation). Press Ctrl+Enter to see the final result.
