Photoshop is no more just a printing guy's delight. Its used by graphic designers, web designers, animators, pre press analysts and digital artsis alike. Everybody has his own favourite menus and keyboard shortcuts.
Transparent GIFs have been a great success for use on the internet (spacer.gif anyone?). The support for transparent pixels in addition to other advantages, makes GIF a great image format. There are, however, a few disadvantages compared to other formats.
An Image is a "Channel Sandwich"
An image is basically a "channel sandwich" with one channel each for red, green and blue in an RGB image or cyan, magenta, yellow and black in a CMYK image.
