Colouring Black and White Photos

Author: FotoFects More by this author

Add colour to black and white photographs.

image 1 1. Open the image for editing.

image 2 2. Create a new "Solid Color" fill layer (Layer> New Fill Layer> Solid Color). Select a colour you wish to paint with. For this step, I've chosen a blue for the water. The colours you select do not have to be absolutely correct because you will be tuning the colours later. Set the layer's blending mode to "Color".

image 3 3. Use the "Eraser" tool (E) to erase all the areas around the areas of tha tcolour.

image 4 4. Repeat step 2 and 3 for all the objects in the photo.

image 5 5. Double-click on each layer to tune the colours.

Colouring Black and White Photos Tutorial: Final Result 6. Rollover the image in this step to see the original image before this technique was applied.
