Burned Paper

In this tutorial, I will teach you how to create the burned paper effect above.

Step1:

Create a new image, File>New or Ctrl+N change the Width(800) and Height (600). Also change the background color to white. Make sure the Mode is set to RBG. Copy the news paper that I used, copy and paste the news paper into Photoshop.

Step2:

Now all you have is the sheet of paper in your work area. Click here to download my brushes, we will use it to create the jagged edges, import the brushed into Photoshop.

Brush Images

Step3:

Use each brushes for the different sides of your paper. Click on Eraser Tool (E) image 4 and enter the setting below.

Use your brush to delete the edges of the paper, place the brush over the edge of the paper and click on your mouse to delete it.

If you did everything right you should have something like I have below.

Now click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool image 8 and select Subtract From Selection image 9 . With the edge of your paper still selected, draw a rectangle in the middle of you newspaper like what I have below.

Step4:

With your edges still selected, set you background to #9e8140 and Foreground to #FFFFFF.

Click on Filter>Brush Strokes>Sumi-e as shown below.

When the Sumi-e window comes up enter the setting below and click ok.

Step5:

If you followed the steps, you should have something like I have below.
