Burned Paper

Author: Swish-db.com More by this author

Hi all. This tutorial will teach how to create a burned (on edges) paper like you see in movies, shows (kind of an ancient scroll).Let's Get started:

1. Create a New Document 640*480 (change nothing in Properties).

2. Create a rectangle (press U to get the right tool) of any size you want.

Then Go to Layer --> Rasterize --> Shape.

3. Next, Click Twice on the background layer (in the Layer palette) and then click OK. This will unlock this layer (You can also go to Layer --> New --> Layer from Background).

4. Now Click once on the shape's layer. Click X to reverse the black/white colors. Press B to select the brush tool. Pick a brush similar to this size 44 (it is already there in the brush palette - follow the size of the brushes up to 44):

5. Start to brush around the edges of the rectangle like shown in the picture:

I advice to do step 5 twice on the border in order not to leave the straight border visible. You should have something like this:

6. Click twice on the layer to get to "Layer Style" properties (or just go to Layer --> Layer Style --> Blending Options).

7. Next I will give values that I used in my image. You can change it according to your taste.

8. Click on "Drop Shadow". Set Distance=13 or 0, Size=13.

9. For the "burned" effect we'll use "Bevel and Emboss" – Depth=121%, Size=8, Soften=2. Click "Contour" Underneath it.

Than, click on "Inner Glow", select color black (instead of yellow which comes as default, size=57).

10. Click "Pattern Overlay" and choose "color paper" like this:

Then choose the best pattern for your needs.

11. That's it. You can add some nice text or whatever is on your mind. Here is my result:
