Designing a Cool Backdrop for a Health Magazine Cover

Start by creating a tentacle shape as shown using pen tool.

Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply settings as shown.

Duplicate the layer. Press Ctrl+T to rotate. Change the anchor position to center of the document and rotate.

Press Ctrl+J and Ctrl+T. Now keep pressing Ctrl+J and Ctrl+Shift+T several times to create the design as shown.

Create a circle using elliptical shape tool. Apply stroke layer style.

Select and merge all the tentacle shapes. Press Ctrl+U to open hue/saturation window. Apply settings as shown.

Duplicate the tentacles layer. Scale down and place as shown. Move this layer above all the layers in layer order in layer palette.

Press Ctrl+Alt+G to create a clipping mask.

Create "Hedera 2" shape using custom shape tool.

Reduce opacity to 50%.

Select and merge all the layers. Duplicate the layer. From "Filter" menu select "Texture>>Stained Glass". Apply settings as shown.

Change the layer mode to "Color Burn" and opacity to 40%.

Insert any image. Change the layer mode to "Overlay".

Insert an image of a model. Change the layer mode to "Hard Light".
