Create a realistic egg yolk with egg white around it.


image 1 1. Create a new 800x600 pixels document. Create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) and use the "Elliptical Marquee" tool (M) to make a selection of an oval. Fill the selection with a yellow. For this step I've used the colour #FFEE00.

image 2 2. Use the "Dodge" tool (O) to lighten the top left area of the yolk.

image 3 3. On the current layer, apply a "Drop Shadow" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Drop Shadow) with the following properties:

Blend Mode: Multiply
Color: #808080
Opacity: 50%
Angle: 180º
Use Global Light: Uncheckmarked
Distance: 5
Spread: 8
Size: 20
Contour: Linear
Anti-aliased: Uncheckmarked
Noise: 0
Layer knocks out drop shadow: Checkmarked

Click OK.


image 4 4. On the current layer, apply an "Inner Shadow" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Inner Shadow) with the following properties:

Blend Mode: Multiply
Color: #FFEE00
Opacity: 75%
Angle: 120º
Use Global Light: Checkmarked
Distance: 14
Choke: 38
Size: 18
Contour: Linear
Anti-aliased: Uncheckmarked
Noise: 0

Click OK.


image 5 5. On the current layer, apply an "Outer Glow" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Outer Glow) with the following properties:

Blend Mode: Overlay
Opacity: 75%
Noise: 0%
Color: #FFEE00
Technique: Softer
Spread: 4
Size: 150
Contour: Linear
Anti-aliased: Uncheckmarked
Range: 50
Jitter: 0

Click OK.


image 6 6. On the current layer, apply a "Bevel and Emboss" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Bevel and Emboss) with the following properties:

Style: Inner Bevel
Technique: Smooth
Depth: 30
Direction: Up
Size: 160
Soften: 10
Angle: 120º
Use Global Light: Uncheckmarked
Altitude: 30º
Gloss Contour: Linear
Anti-aliased: Uncheckmarked
Highlight Mode:Screen
Highlight Color: White
Opacity: 75%
Shadow Mode: Multiply
Highlight Color: Black
Opacity: 75%

Click OK.


image 7 7. On the current layer, apply a "Gradient Overlay" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Gradient Overlay) with the following properties:

Blend Mode: Screen
Opacity: 100%
Gradient: Black, White
Reverse: Uncheckmarked
Style: Radial
Align with layer: Checkmarked
Angle: 90º
Scale: 150%


image 8 8. Move the "Layer Style" window so that the yolk on the stage is visible. Click on the yolk and drag towards the top right corner of the egg. When done, click OK in the "Layer Style" window.

image 9 9. Name the top layer "yolk", create a new layer underneath it and name it "white".

image 10 10. With the layer "white" selected, make use the "Elliptical Marquee" tool (M), to make a selection of an oval surrounding the yolk. Use the "Paint Bucket" tool (F) to fill the selection with the colour #BDBCB and deselect (Ctrl+D).
