A different way, and a different result of making Metallic Orbs.
1. Make a new image, ours is 600px x 600px - with a white background
2. Make a new layer, and called it base 1
3. Click Filter > render > 3d transform - make a few circle shapes, and rotate it 180* with the camera rotate tool (specified on enlarged picture)
4. Click Filter > Blur > guassian blur - and blur it to about 2.2 until the squares on the circles disappear
5. Click Layer > Duplicate layer, and name it base 2
6. Click filter > sketch > chrome - detail 0 and smoothness 10.
7. With the blur tool, set to a size about 40, blur all fo the hard jagged edges (if you need to)
8. Duplicate the current layer (base 2) and name the new layer, base 3
9. Click filter>stylize>emboss - angle = 135..... height = 13..... and amount = 135
10. Duplicate the current layer (base 3) and name the new layer base 4
11. Go to image > adjustments > levels - and drag thge right slider to the middle
12. On the layers palate, select base 3 layer, and click edit > adjustments > levels - but drag the left slider to the middle
13. On the layers palate, select the current layers blending option to linear dodge.
14. Click on base 4 layer on the layers palate, and set the blending options to multiply
15. On base 4 (the current layer) CTRL click the thumbnail, and click filter > blur > guassian blur - and hit OK
16. Now with your selection still slected, click base 3 layer, and filter > blur > guassian blur it again.
17. On base 2 - on the layer palate, set the blending options to saturation
18. Now drag the base 2 layer, to the top - so your layers are as follows:
19. Hold CTRL and press E - 3 times.
20. Hold CTRL and press U to colourise it, with the colourise box checked. move the sliders up and down until you find an effect that you like!
