Author: Blueshout.com More by this author

Today, I’ll be teaching you how to make your very own car! Except you won’t have to pay me, or shell out 10,000 pounds for one. No, this is pixel car tutorial, and hopefully, by the end of it you’ll have a car to compliment any image. I shall assume you have a limited knowledge of Pixel art, and covered the basics. If not, please try these, and then get back to us:

Pixel Art Basics: Pixel building-PenguinPedia

Lets move on, if you’ve come here expecting to make a Pixel car in ten minutes, you are very much mistaken. This tutorial, may take the best part of an hour. But trust me, it’ll be all worth it when you get the outcome. This tutorial, as I stated before is aimed at advanced users, with knowledge of Pixel art, but it will also take some patience.

Anyway, before we get going, it is impetrative that you follow it exactlyas I have drawn it. Make sure the car is in proportion to the image it’ll be added to though.

Tutorial made in Adobe Photoshop 7, woks in all current versions

Phase One:

Start by opening your image, 100 x 100 will do nicely.

S1: With your pencil tool, and one pixel 1 px selected, zoom into 500% or 600%. And draw this roof. Note the boxes are 1 up 2 across, as implied by the above image. This is used in Pixel Art is made such objects as a rectangle, if you on the other hand used the 1 up 1 across “method”, it would go horribly wrong, and become a square. Hopefully you know what I mean. Draw the roof of the car:

S2: I've always fancied a red car. So I'll be using DA1418 body work colour, and F34D51 as a highlight (The lighter red, which serves as a “outline). Colour the car as I have:

S3: Right. Use your red again for the sides, next to the window, Thhis blue for the main part of our windscreen: 6DBDDF The Window outline: 6DBDDF And the Highlight: A5DEF5

S4: Proceed by drawing the bonnet. You'll need to use this darker red, for the colouring AE0408, this adds depth. Highlight again, with your light red (F34D51):

Phase Two:

S1: Now comes the harder part: Remember to do exactly it as I have done. Add the lights, hex: F7F3AA For the first line between the light bulbs (Dark red one): 7B0407 And the Grey: 5B5B5B This lines serve the purpose of a grill, and look pretty stylish if you ask me ? For image, look at Step 3.

S3 Joined with two: Colour you bumper in grey: 676767, and highlight it another grey: 676767

S4Now draw your tyre. Make it the same colour as the dark grey in the bumper, and outline the tyre where I have, For the outline, highlight use:: 4B4A4A

Phase Three:

Carry on with the line. Copy your tyre paste it, move it into position, then press and hold “Ctrl+E”. Or simply drw your tyre again. Fill in you bodywork with your red, and make windows, like mine:

S1: Add two grey lines: 908E8E, BFB9B9 And your remaining window

S2: Highlight the rest of the car, with your light red

S3: Add some handles, and any more detail you want:

S4: Your finished, it should now look like mine when zoomed out:
