Create a realistic Earth with random lands and clouds in a space background. Every result will be different.

1. Create a new 640x480 pixels document (Ctrl+N) with a black background. |

2. Use the "Add Noise" filter (Filter> Noise> Add Noise) to create the stars that wlil appear in the background. Select "15%" as the "amount", "gaussian" as the distribution method and checkmark "Monochromatic". Click OK. |

3. Skip this step if your layer is not locked.
Unlock the current layer by double clicking on the layer "Background". Click OK when a dialog appears. Your layer should now be named "Layer 0" instead of "Background". |

4. On the current layer, add a "Pattern Overlay" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Pattern Overlay) with the following properties:
Blend Mode: Overlay
Click OK. |

5. Create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) and make a circular selection using the "Circular Marquee" tool (M). Hold the "Shift" button while draging a circle to create a perfect circle. |

6. Fill in the selection with an unsaturated green. The colour number I've used in this step is is 92A070. Deselect the selection (Ctrl+D). |

7. Use the default forground and background colours (D). Create a new layer and fill the layer with a "Clouds" filter (Filter> Render> Clouds). |

8. Increase the "Contrast" by "100" on the current layer by using hte "Brightness/Contrast" (Image> Adjustment> Brightness/Contrast) tool. |

9. Apply a "Plastic Wrap" filter (Filter> Artistic> Plastic Wrap) to the current layer with the following properties:
Highlight Strength: 20
Click OK. |

10. Change the current layer's blending mode to "Screen". |

11. Using the "Hue/Saturation" tool (Ctrl+U), apply the following properties:
Colorize: Checkmarked
Click Ok. |

12. Load the selection of the middle layer (Ctrl+Click on the middle layer) then with the top layer selected, apply a "Spherize" filter (Filter> Distort> Spherize). Set the "Amount" to "100%" and the "Mode" to "Normal". Click OK and repeat the filter again by pressing "Ctrl+F". |

13. With the circular selection still selected, add a layer mask to the top layer (Layer> Add Layer Mask> Reveal Selection). |

14. Add an "Inner Shadow" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Inner Shadow) to the current layer with the following properties:
Blend Mode: Multiply
Click Ok. |

15. Add a "Gradient Overlay" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Gradient Overlay) to the current layer with the following properties:
Blend Mode: Normal
Click on the center of the gradient on the stage and move it to the top left corner so that it looks like the image in this stage. Now change the "Blend Mode" to "Overlay". Click OK. |
