Ring of Fire

I fell into a blazing ring of fire .... Learn the ring of fire technique.

Step 1.
Create a new image 300 x 300. Make the background black. It will make it easier to see what you are doing.

Step 2.
Select the eliptical marquee tool, and create a circular selection on the canvas. Fill your selection with white, or another light colour.

Step 3.
With the circle still selected, goto Select -> Modify -> Contract and contract by 10px. Press delete to remove the center of the circle.

Step 4.
Press Ctrl + D to deselect the circle. Add a wind effect to the circle. Goto Filter -> Stylize -> Wind Use Blast from the left.

Step 5.
Rotate the second layer. Edit-> Transform -> Rotate 90 ° CCW.

Step 6.
Choose the smudge tool, and start stroking up in the direction of the wind. Set the strength to around 55%, and use a soft brush 9-20px in size. You should end up with something like this. Duplicate the layer.

Step 7.
Select Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Hue/Saturation. Check group with previous layer. Set Opacity to 75% and Press enter. Check the colorize box. Settings: Hue: 30, Saturation 75, Lightness -50. Sety the hue layer to darken.

Step 8.
Select the copy of the layer, and move it to the top. Set the blending to overlay. Here is the finished image. You can add some black to break up the colour, and give it some extra texture.
