Space Scene

Create a planet in space you can customize anytime with layer styles.


image 1 1. Create a new document with a black background. Add a new layer (Ctrl+N).

image 2 2. With the top layer selected, use the "Circular Marquee" tool (M) to make a selection of a circle. To make a perfect circle, hold the "Shift" key while making a selection of the circle.

image 3 3. Fill in the selection with the colour white.

4. Add an "Inner Shadow" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Inner Shadow) to the current layer. Set the "Blend Mode" to "Multiply" with the colour black. Keep the "Opacity" at "100%" and set the "Angle", "Distance", "Choke" and "Size" to a value that will create a similar effect as the image in this step.

5. Add an "Inner Glow" layer style (Layer. Layer Style> Inner Glow) to the current layer and apply the following properties to the layer style:

Blend Mode: Multiply
Opacity: 40%
Color: Black
Technique: Softer
Choke: Adjust accordingly to create a similar effect as the image in this step.
Size: Adjust accordingly to create a similar effect as the image in this step.
Contour: Select the pattern "Linear" (Looks like a triangle)
Range: 50%
Jitter: 0%

6. Add a"Pattern Overlay " layer style (Layer. Layer Style> Pattern Overlay) to the current layer and apply the following properties to the layer style:

Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 100%
Pattern: Clouds
Scale: Adjust accordingly to create a similar effect as the image in this step.
Link with Layer: Checkmarked

7. Add a"Drop Shadow " layer style (Layer. Layer Style> Drop Shadow) to the current layer and apply the following properties to the layer style:

Blend Mode: Screen
Colour: Select a colour of your choice.
Opacity: 100%
Angle: Adjust accordingly to create a similar effect as the image in this step.
Disance: Adjust accordingly to create a similar effect as the image in this step.
Spread: Adjust accordingly to create a similar effect as the image in this step.
Size: Adjust accordingly to create a similar effect as the image in this step.
Contour: Select the pattern "Linear" (Looks like a triangle)
Noise: 0%

8. Add a"Color Overlay " layer style (Layer. Layer Style> Color Overlay) to the current layer and apply the following properties to the layer style:

Blend Mode: Screen
Colour: Select a colour of your choice.
Opacity: Adjust accordingly to create a similar effect as the image in this step.


image 14 9. Select the layer "Background" and apply a "Add Noise" filter (Filter> Noise> Add Noise) with the following properties:

Amount: 1%
Distribution: Gaussian
Monochromatic: Checkmarked.

Click OK.


image 15 10. Your image should now look similar to the image in this step.

image 16 11. Create a new layer as the top layer. (Ctrl+N).

image 17 12. On the new layer, apply a "Clouds" filter (Filter> Render> Clouds).

image 18 13. Set the current layer's blending mode to "Overlay" and the "Opacity" to "50%".

Space Scene Tutorial: Final Result 14. Stars are now added in the background. Try using different layer styles to create different planets.
