Outcomes:
1. Start by making a new document, I prefer and use 350x100 pixels. Make the background transparent.
2. Next on the first layer fill the background with a moderately dark colour from your sprite or do a radial gradient, from one moderate colour your sprite to black.
3. Next open up and add a background or stock image that you would like to use as part of the background.
4. Set this layer to "Soft Light", next duplicate this layer, set this to 'Color Dodge" at 20% opacity.
5. Next make a new layer, apply image, go to Filter>>Distort>>Ripple" at 500% amount, and set this layer to "Color Dodge", 60% opacity.
6. Next add your sprite, duplicate 7 times, hide all except first one, smudge with a + brush under settings at 70-80% strength:
7. Set this smudged layer to "Color Dodge".
8. Next unhide your next sprite layer, go to "Filter>>Distort>>Wave" randomize a few times, smudge more with + brush and set this layer to 'Color Dodge" at 100% opacity.
9. Repeat but randomize the wave filter more.
10. New layer, apply image, go to "Filter>>Brush Strokes>>Spatter" and rotate this layer, and set this to "Lighten" and move to a side.
11. Repeat but move to another side, preferably the opposite side.
12. Add the same background or stock image as before, again in the same place, set this to "Pin Light" at 50-60% opacity.
13. Next make a new layer, apply image, "Filter>>Artistic>>Dry Brush", "darken" at 100% opacity, move to a side, repeat, and move to opposite side, merge layers.
14. Repeat but set the blending mode to "Lighten" and lower the opacity as you desire.
15. Next make a new layer, apply image, add spatter filter, do this 2 times, rotate layer, move, "Lighten" at 100% opacity. Duplicate this layer twice, move each layer to opposite sides and rotate.
16. Next unhide your next sprite layer, set this to "Screen". at 100% opacity.
17. Next add a black and white gradient map, set this to "Darken", 100% opacity, and brush black where you don't want the gradient map to take effect.
18. Next make a new layer, apply image, now to add some light, take out the "Dodge Tool", and dodge where you want, be sure not to dodge too much.
19. Next unhide your next sprite layer, smudge or motion blur (50 amount) and set to "Color Dodge", move the sprite a bit to a side.
20. Repeat but place the sprite on another side.
21. Next add a purple and orange gradient map, "Color Dodge", 70-80% opacity.
22. Next unhide your next sprite layer, "Normal", 20% opacity.
23. Next make a new layer, apply image, wave, gaussian blur 10-20 amount, spatter, and set this layer to 'Lighten".
24. Add a colour balance layer, "Normal" 70-90% opacity, brush black where you don't want the colour balance to take effect.
25. Make a new layer apply image, spatter, rotate, set this layer to "Lighten", merge with last layer and 30% opacity.
26. Next add a black and white gradient map, "pin Light", brush black in places you want colour.
27. Next unhide your next sprite layer, blend or smudge, "Normal", 20-40% opacity.
28. Add a sepia photo filter 925 density), "Screen", 40-60% opacity, 40-80% fill.
29. Next make a new layer, apply image, wave, gaussian blur 10-20 amount, spatter twice, 'Lighten" at 20% opacity.
30. New layer, apply image, gaussian blur 3 amount, "Lighten" at 20% opacity.
31. Lastly make a new layer, apply image, sharpen.
32. You are now done, add whatever effects you like, and text.
