Learn how to make tacks so you can pin up notes.

1. Create a new document. Grab the the Elliptical Marquee, hold down Shift and make a perfect circle. Next, choose a color for your foreground (light color) and background (dark color). Take the radial gradient and apply a gradient, from somewhere between the middle and one of the sides.

Step 1

2. Now, create a new layer, and create another circular selection on the new layer by using the Elliptical Marquee and holding Shift. Move the selection over the top right of the other circle and fill it with your background color.

Step 2

3. Now create a new layer between your two layers containing the circles. Ctrl+click (Mac: Command+click) on the layer with the second circle. Next, when you get the selection loaded, fill it with black, then go Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. it, not too much just enough for a good shadow. and nudge it down and over (you can choose either direction if you wish) a few pixels.

Step 3

4. For the final touch, use the Burn Tool, set the Range to Shadows on the top Options Bar with a low opacity, about 5%-15%. And you should have a cool tack that you can use to pin up notes.
