Most people are probably getting tired of normal 3px borders. Spiff things up with this very simple wide screen effect border. Start by opening up your signature that you are going to add this effect to.
Now, make a new layer. Take out the Rectangular Marquee Tool. At the top, find the small drop window, and select 'Fixed Size'. Enter in the Width area 100%. This will make the width the full width of the canvas In the Height area, enter any value between 5 and 15, all depending on the overall size of your signature and your personal interest. For this tutorial, I will use 10px. Now, simply make a selection at the very top of the signature, like this.
Now, while holding Shift, select the very bottom part of your signature, like this.
Next, fill the area with black by pressing Ctrl Backspace if your colors are set to default.
To finish, deselect, and then select the entire canvas by pressing Ctrl A. Goto Edit > Fill > Stroke and add a 1px Black stroke on the Inside.
Now your wide screen border is finished! The black bars are a perfect place to add small white text such as your name or website.
