Wood Frame

This tutorial will show you how to make a wood frame for any type of picture you'd like. Start off by opening up the picture you will be using for this. I have chose to use a picture of myself I had laying around.

Now, in most saved pictures your editing options will be limited, so what I am going to do is to hit ctrl+A to select all, then ctrl+c to copy the picture. I will then open a new document (it will automatically be the same size as your previous picture) and paste it into it. This will allow me to have a full range of editing options again.

Now, create a new layer. This will be the layer for our wooden frame. Select the color #783809 for the foreground and #DFAA71 for the background.

Go ahead and render some clouds in this new layer (filter, render, clouds).

Next, use the option filter, noise, add noise... check the gaussian and monochromatic buttons, and then for amount use 7.

From here we will add a Mosaic effect (filter, pixelate, mosaic) and make the cell size 4.

Now, we will add a shear effect to this.

Now draw a box on your newly formed wood layer. This will be the middle portion you will cut out to allow your photo lying under this layer to be seen.

When the box you drew is cut out, it should look something like this.

Now go to layer, layer style, blending options. Do a bevel and emboss with the settings shown below.

Now to make the appearance of glass, pick one corner of your picture and render a lens flare on the same layer as your original picture. Make sure the corner is inside your cutout for the frame. Render this lens flare using the 105mm Prime selection and use it at 100% brightness. Now go to the opposite corner and render another lens flare, this time you will make it 105mm prime but with only between 30-40% brightness.

You could end your work here, but I like having diagonals in the corner to make it look like interlocked pieces of wood. What you can do is make a new layer above your previous layer. Use a dark brown color, and the brush tool (I used a 5 pixel brush). Make diagonal lines in the corners like this. image 10

Now simply set your blending options so that the layer is in linear burn mode.

Your final image should look like this:
