Automatic Saturation

Equalize the saturation of your image so that saturated areas are desaturated and unsaturated areas are saturated.


image 1 1. Open the image for editing.

image 2 2. Duplicate the current layer (Ctrl+J).

image 3 3. With the new layer selected, use the "Hue/Saturation" tool to increase the "Saturation" so that the image reaches its maximum saturation without any posterizing effect. Click OK.

image 4 4. Duplicate the current layer (Ctrl+J).

image 5 5. Desaturate the new layer (Ctrl+Shift+U).

image 6 6. Add a layer mask (Layer> Add Layer Mask> Reveal All) to the current layer.

image 7 7. With the layer mask selected, use the "Apply Image" tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:

Source: filename
Layer: Merged
Channel: RGB
Invert: Checkmarked
Blending: Normal
Opacity: 100%

Click OK.
