In this mini tutorial you will learn how to create a convincing logo that is embossed in the surface of a beer glass.
Please note I cannot provide photographs as I am not allowed to distribute istock images.
1. Download and open beer in Photoshop CS3. This file only has one layer, Background.
2. Download and open "Budweiser.ai" in illustrator. Copy all paths.
3. In Photoshop, paste the Budweier logo. Choose "Smart Object" from the Paste menu that appears.
4. Resize the vector logo using SHIFT to constrain proportions.
5. Rasterize the layer to make it editable.
6. To select all the pixels in that layer and turn it into a selection, right click (CMD click) and choose "Select Pixels"
7. Hide the Logo (Smart Object) Layer and create a new layer.
8. Paste the copied pixels to the new layer.
9. Show "Background" layer again. Select the layer above and click on the Layer Style buttons (the FX icon) Choose Bevel and Emboss.
10. Experiment with the settings until you get a convincing, soft emboss effect. The settings below gave me a realistic effect.
11. To create an even more convincing emboss, sample a colour from the darkest part of the glass and use that as the Shadow Mode colour. Simply click on the colour chip next to the Shadow Mode option and use the eyedropper to sample the colour, as shown below
12. Now we have a realistic emboss, but the logo glass is not warped around the contours of the glass. We will use Image Wrap for this.
13. Select the layer with the logo, and go to Edit Menu Transform > Wrap.
14. Now you can resize and adjust the wrap plane by clicking and draggingon the points on the wrap mesh, as shown below.
15. The completed Warp Mesh.
16. Now for the finishing touches. Duplicate "Background" layer and move it to the top of the layer stack.
Change the Blend mode to Soft Light and the Opacity to 50%, as shown below.
This will reveal the logo below, but show the cool bubbles .
17. The finished glass with transparent embossed logo.
