Fairy Dust appears in random patterns on the highlights of your image.

1. Open the image for editing. |

2. Create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) and fill it with the colour black. |

3. On the new layer, use the "Add Noise" filter (Filter> Noise> Add Noise) to apply the following properties:
Amount: 5% Click OK. |

4. Apply an "Auto Levels" (Ctrl+Shift+L). |

5. Use the "Threshold" tool (Image> Adjustment> Threshold) to adjust the amount of fairy dust that will appear in the image. Make sure that the "Preview" checkbox is activated. Click OK. |

6. Use the "Magic Wand" tool (W) to select the black area of the current layer. Press "Delete" to erase the selected area and deselect (Ctrl+D). |

7. On the current layer, add a "Outer Glow" layer style (Layer> Layer Style> Outer Glow). Set the "Size" to the size of the fairy dust glow and set the "Spread" to half of the "Size". Select a colour for the fairy dust glow. Click OK. |

8. Add a layer mask (Layer> Add Layer Mask> Reveal All). |

9. With the layer mask selected, use the "Apply Image" tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:

10. Use the "Brightness/Contrast" tool (Image> Adjustment> Brightness/Contrast) and increase the "Contrast" to "+100". Lower the "Brightness" to remove most of the areas you do not want the dust to appear. |

11. Use the "Eraser" tool (E) to erase the areas you do not want the fairy dust to appear. |

12. Rollover the image in this step to see the original image before this technique was applied. |
