Grungy Photo Montage

image 1 1. Open the Merge to HDR tool (File> Automate> Merge to HDR).

image 2 2. Click Browse to select up to five images to be used for the photo montage then click Open.

image 3 3. Click OK and in the Manually Set EV window, apply the following properties:

Image 1: EV: 1
Image 2: EV: 2
Image 3: EV: 3
Image 4: EV: 4
Image 5: EV: 5

Click OK. If the OK button still does not activate after setting the properties for all the images, click the left arrow under the image thumbnail.

image 4 4. In the Merge to HDR window, set the Bit Depth to 8 Bit/Channel then click OK.

image 5 5. In the HDR Conversion window, leave the default settings with Exposure and Gamma as the method and click OK.

image 6 6. Use the Exposure tool (Image> Adjustments> Exposure) to apply the following properties:

Exposure: 0.00
Offset: -0.5000
Gamma: 1.00

image 7 7. Invert the current layer (Ctrl+I).

image 8 8. Use the Hue/Saturation tool (Ctrl+U) to colorize the layer. These are the settings I've used for this step:

Hue: 36
Saturation: 25
Lightness: 0

image 9 9. Duplicate the current layer (Ctrl+J) and change the blending mode of the new layer to Overlay.

image 10 10. With the new layer selected, use the Brightness/Contrast tool to increase the contrast and adjust the brightness.
