Transform a normal photograph into a colourful abstract artwork.

image 1 1. Open the image for editing.

image 2 2. Use the "Image Size" tool (Image> Image Size) to increase the "Height" to "500 percent". Make sure that the "Constrain Proportions" is unchecked. Click OK.

image 3 3. Create a new "Custom Pixel Aspect Ratio" (Image> Pixel Aspect Ratio> Custom Pixel Aspect Ratio...) and apply the following properties:

Name: 5:1
Factor: 5

Click OK.

image 4 4. Duplicate the current layer (Ctrl+J).

image 5 5. On the new layer, apply a "Maximum" filter (Filter> Other> Maximum). The value you define in this step will equal to the size of the holographic bars.

image 6 6. Apply a "Motion Blur" to the current layer with the "Angle" set to "90º". The value you define in this step will equal to the height of the holographic bars.

Holographic Bars Tutorial: Final Result 7. Set the aspect ratio back to "Square Pixels" (Image> Pixel Aspect Ratio> Square) and use the "Image Size" tool to set the height to "20 percent". Make sure that the "Constrain Proportions" checkbox is unchecked in the "Image Size" tool. Rollover the image on the left of this step to see the original image before this technique was applied.
