Lighten dark areas and darken light areas to reveal details.

Open the image for editing. |

Duplicate the current layer (Ctrl+J) and add a layer mask (Layer> Add Layer Mask> Reveal All). |

With the layer mask selected, use the "Apply Image" tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties: Source: filename Click OK. |

Duplicate the current layer (Ctrl+J) set the new layers blending mode to "Screen" and the middle layers blending mode to "Multiply". |

Select the top layer's layer mask and invert (Ctrl+I). |

Select the layer "Background" and use the "Shadow/Highlight" tool (Image> Adjustment> Shadow/Highlight) to increase the "Shadows". |

Rollover the image in this step to see the original image before this technique was applied. |
