Keying Green Screens

Remove green screens from your photographs without artifacts showing on edges.

image 1 1. Open the image for editing.
image 2 2. Add a "Channel Mixer" adjustment layer (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Channel Mixer) and apply the following properties:

Monochrome: Checkmarked
Red: 200
Green: -200
Blue: 100

Click OK.

image 3 3. Add a layer mask (Layer> Add Layer Mask> Reveal All) to the bottom layer.
image 4 4. With the layer mask selected, use the "Apply Image" tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:

Source: filename
Layer: Merged
Channel: RGB
Invert: Uncheckmarked
Blending: Normal
Opacity: 100%

Click OK.

image 5 5. In the "Channels" pallet, select the alpha channel and paint the areas that you do not want to be keyed white.
image 6 6. The image is now keyed, however, if you are working on an image with fine details such as hair, you may notice artifacts around the edges. To fix this, select the "Blue" channel (Ctrl+3), select the canvas (Ctrl+A), copy (Ctrl+C), select the "Green" channel (Ctrl+2) and paste (Ctrl+V).
