Layer: Merged
Channel: Red

Blending: Multiply
Opacity: 100%

image 6 6. Duplicate the Background layer (Ctrl+J).

image 7 7. With the middle layer selected, select the Lightness channel (Ctrl+1).

image 8 8. With the lightness channel selected, use the Apply Image tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:

Layer: Layer 1
Channel: Lab
Invert: Unchecked
Blending: Normal
Opacity: 100%

image 9 9. Select back the Lab channel (Ctrl+~).

image 10 10. Delete the top layer and add a layer mask to the Background copy layer (Layer> Layer Mask> Reveal All).

image 11 11. Using the Eraser tool (E), erase the areas in the layer mask where you do not want this effect to be applied. This effect reduces the saturation of red and you can fix this problem by erasing areas that are red.

image 12 12. To reduce the overall strength of the polarize effect, reduce the Opacity of the top layer.

Polarize Tutorial: Final Result 13. Change the image mode back to RGB Color (Image> Mode> RGB Color). Rollover the image to see the original image without this effect applied.
