Grunge Border

Step 1.

Open an existing document here I'm working with the background that I had created in the grunge background tutorial. Create a new layer on top of all other layers, and make a selection like so:

Go to Select->Inverse to invert the selection, and fill the selection with black (#000000)

Press Ctrl + D on your keyboard to deselect the area:

Step 2.

Right click and save to save the displace_map.psd onto your desktop or another location, you will need it for this next step.

Go to Filter->Distort->Displace and apply these settings:

Browse to where-ever you had saved the displace_map.psd document and select it, and click 'Open':

Press Ctrl + F on your keyboard to duplicate this process.

Step 3.

Create a new layer on top of all other layers, and go to Filter->Render->Clouds.

Go to: Filter->Render->Difference Clouds.

Press Ctrl + F three times to repeat the difference clouds filter three times.

Go to Layer->Group With Previous (or press Ctrl + G on your keyboard).

Change the blending option of this layer to: Hard Light

You can repeat step # 3 a couple more times to add a little more detail to the border such as I have done in my final result. This concludes the Grunge Border tutorial. Here's what I finished with after adding some text, and a game render:
