Energy Pulse Background Effect

Step 1

Create a new document in photoshop that is 600x600 pixels in size.

Step 2

Press "D" on your keyboard to reset your foreground and background colors to Black (#000000) / White (#FFFFFF) respectively.

Go to Filter->Render->Clouds.

Result:

Step 3

Go to Filter->Render->Difference Clouds.

Press and hold the Ctrl button on your keyboard down, and press F five times to repeat the Difference Cloud filter 5 times.

Result:

Step 4

Press Ctrl + U on your keyboard to open up the Hue/Saturation tool.

Check the "Colorize Box" and apply the following settings:

Step 5

Go to Filter->Artistic->Plastic Wrap and apply the following settings:

And that's all there is too it, here is what my final version came out like.

Energy Pulse Background Effect Tutorial: Final Result

As you can see this tutorial is extremely easy, and the effect looks pretty futuristic, and cool. Try adjusting the colors used in step #4, and apply different filters other than the Plastic Wrap in step #5 to get completely different results. The key to perfecting your abilities with Photoshop is practice, exploration, and more practice.
