First open up a new document. I used 600x480.
Press d to reset the colours and then go to Filter>Render>Render Difference Clouds.
The go to Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates>Polar to Rectangular.
And you will have something similar to the image below.
Duplicate this layer and call it Fire 1
Select the Magic Wand Tool (press W on your keyboard)
and then select an are of colour, try to pick out a certain shade, as the magic wand will select the large portion of the image that's colour is close the pixel your selected. So just click and it will select a shape. (See image below)
copy and past the selection, (ctrl+c, then ctrl+v) and it will create a new layer.
With the pasted selection on it. Name this layer fire 2.
Select your fire 1 layer and repeat the steps of using the magic wand tool a few times but each time select a different area. each time name the layers fire 3, fire 4 etc.
I used 2 more sections and they looked like this.
Turn of the visibility your fire layers, by clicking the eye in the layers panel. all that should be visibly now is the background layer.
Now select the fire 1 layer. (it will automatically become visible)
Press ctrl+u to open up the Hue/Saturation box.
And make sure the colorize box is checked, and move the slides un till you have a nice red colour,
Now select your Fire 2 layer and open up the Hue/Saturation box again, and make it an orangey colour.
Now select your Fire 3 layer and open up the Hue/Saturation box again, I made mine a strong red colour.
Now select your Fire 4 layer and open up the Hue/Saturation box again, I made mine a yellow colour.
Now that all your layers have been colour changed, you may want to go back and re adjust the colour's to make them look more fiery, just try and get some nice shades at this point.
Now starting with your fire 4 layer go though and change the blending options of each layer to overlay.
Leave the background layer on normal, and you should have something like this now.
Click on the fire 4 layer merge all the layers down (ctrl+e) un till your are left with fire 1 and background.
To make it look better you can do one of a few things.
Duplicate the fire 1 layer and set it to
overlay
or set it to screen
or apply a gaussian blue of 5.0 pixels
filter>blur>gaussian blur.
Doing this will remove the more dominant edges and make the thing blue together better.
When your are happy with your image your can merge all the layers together and add some of your own techniques to make a nice wallpaper. in cooperate into another image.
Here are two examples which you can do using your fire.
To do either of these:
Merge all the layers together then
First Go to Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates,
Use Rectangular to Polar
And your will get something like this
Go to filter>blur>radial blur> and use these settings
Your should have something like this.
Also if your invert it (ctrl+i) you will get another nice effect.
Add some text or something and your have a nice wallpaper.
