Floating Pixels

Pixels of different luminance floating in a random pattern.


image 1 1. Create a new document, reset your foreground and background colors (D), then add a Clouds filter (Filter> Render> Clouds).

image 2 2. Apply a Find Edges filter (Filter> Stylize> FInd Edges).

image 3 3. Increase the contrast by apply an Auto Levels (Ctrl+Shift+L)

image 4 4. Apply a Charcoal filter (Filter> Sketch> Charcoal) with these settings:

Charcoal Thickness: 1
Detail: 5
Light/Dark Balance: 50


image 5 5. Invert the image (Ctrl+I).

image 6 6. Rotate the image by 45ºCW (Image> Rotate Canvas> Arbitrary)

image 7 7. Increase the highlights using the Maximum filter (Filter> Other> Maximum). I used a radius of 10.

image 8 8. Rotate the image by 45ºCCW (Image> Rotate Canvas> Arbitrary)

image 9 9. Crop the image.

image 10 10. Colorize the image using the Hue/Saturation tool (Ctrl+U). These are the settings I used:

Hue: 200
Saturation: 100
Lightness: 0


image 11 11. Create a new layer, add a Clouds filter (Filter> Render> Clouds) and change the blending mode to Overlay.

image 12 12. Repeat the previous step.
