Liquid Chrome Effect

Step 1

Make a random complex selection and fill it with black. Do it again while holding on the ALT key, fill this with blue. Make sure to keep a good balance of white in this image.

Step 2

Apply the Radial Blur Filter (Filter > Blur > Radial Blur) three or so times with the amount set at 80, blur type on zoom, and quality on good. Apply it once more, but set the quality at best and amount to 20.

Step 3

Next use the Chrome Filter (Filter > Sketch > Chrome) with the quality set at 3 and the smoothness at 10. Duplicate (Layer > Duplicate Layer) this layer twice. With these new layers selected apply any distort filter (some may work better than others) and set them to overlay.

Step 4

Add some colour to the background layer with the Hue/Saturation mixer (Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation). Make sure to set the mode to colourize before you add the colour. So there you have it! A really... weird... looking effect! Isn't that nice?
