Rusted Metal

Create a realistic metal texture with rust on it.


image 1 1. Create a new document using the "Default Photoshop Size" and apply a "Clouds" filter (Filter> Render> Clouds).

image 2 2. Use the "Motion Blur" filter (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur) to apply the following properties:

Angle: 0º
Distance: 150 pixels

Click OK.


image 3 3. Use the "Add Noise" filter (Filter> Noise> Add Noise) to apply the following properties:

Amount: 5%
Distribution: Uniform
Monochrome: Uncheckmarked

Click OK.


image 4 4. Use the "Motion Blur" filter (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur) to apply the following properties:

Angle: 0º
Distance: 10 pixels

Click OK.


image 5 5. Create a new layer and apply a "Clouds" filter (Filter> Render> Clouds).

image 6 6. On the current layer, use the "Brightness/Contrast" tool (Image> Brightness/Contrast) to apply the following properties:

Brightness: -25
Contrast: 50

Click OK.


image 7 7. Add a layer mask (Layer> Add Layer Mask> Reveal All) to the current layer.

image 8 8. With the layer mask selected, use the "Apply Image" tool to apply the following properties:

Source: filename
Layer: Layer 1
Channel: RGB
Invert: Uncheckmarked
Blending: Normal
Opacity: 100%

Click OK.


image 9 9. Inverse the current layer (Ctrl+I).

image 10 10. With the current layer selected, use the "Hue/Saturation" tool (Ctrl+U) to apply the following properties:

Colorize: Checkmarked
Hue: 25
Saturation: 25
Lightness: 50

Click OK.


image 11 11. Set the current layer's blending mode to "Color Burn".

image 12 12. Duplicate the current layer (Ctrl+J) and fill in the new layer with white.

image 13 13. Use the "Add Noise" filter (Filter> Noise> Add Noise) to apply the following settings:

Amount: 15%
Distribution: Uniform
Monochrome: Checkmarked

Click OK.


image 14 14. Duplicate the middle layer (Ctrl+J), set the new layer's blending mode to "Hard Light".
