Simple Meteor Thingy

Step 1

Make a new canvas, petty much any size will do, but the bigger the better, and a Square tends to look best- but that's just me. I chose 500x500 for this one.

Step 2

Set your foreground color to red: 255, green: 0, blue: 0.
Set your background color to red: 51, green: 0, blue: 0.

Step 3

Make a Clouds render (Filter>Render>Clouds).

So far it should look like this:

Step 4

Throw a lens-flare on there, in the lower-right hand corner, with the brightness set at around 125.

Step 5

Add some lighting effects (Filter>Render>Lighting Effects). Here are my settings:

Step 6

To add more sense of motion,what better to add than a Motion Blur? (Filter>Blur>Motion Blur). My settings are having the Angel set at -47, and the Distance set at 27, but your Angel setting may vary.

Final Result

Admittedly, it is pretty simple and 2D-looking, but like I said, I'm pretty new to Photoshop, and I just made this up in Web Design Class while the teacher was talking.
