Golden Shine

Create a new image in Photoshop by using: File/New. I used 400 px x 400 px, but the size is really up to you. I filled in the bottom layer with black using the paint bucket. Then I put in some text, I chose to use Curlz MT as my font and I made it big enough to fill the image.

The next step is to right click your text layer and Rasterize it. Then Ctrl-Click or select your text layer. With your text layer still selected create a new layer by going under Layer/New/Layer. One this new layer you will want to select the Gradient tool (it may be hiding with your paint bucket). Now choose the orange, yellow, orange gradient and make a slash through the image. Your image should now look like the one below.

Now the rest is easy. You may want to hide or delete your white text layer, that is up to you. With the gradient text layer highlight go under Layer/Layer Style/Blending Options. Now click on Outer Glow and set the size to 10px. Click Inner Glow, and you can leave this on the defaults and also click Bevel and Emboss. Your image should look like the one below.

Golden Shine Tutorial: Final Result

And that is it. Now you have some golden shiny text. Actually this tutorial is mainly just to show that you can do many different text effects by selecting the text and creating a new layer. Experiment with different gradients and get something you like. I made the picture below using essentially the same technique.
