- Create a new file at whatever size you need, we used 350x75 here. Select the text tool, enter your text and click ok. Use a nice thick font, we used Impact. Then, for PS5, you will need to render the text layer by choosing Layer/Type/Render Layer.
- On the layers palette, Hold the CTRL key and left click on the active text layer you just created. This will create a selection.
- Click on the quickmask icon to enter quickmask mode.
- Now choose Filter/Pixelate/Crystalize. Then choose a value that suits your need, we used 8.
- Next, exit quickmask mode by choosing Standard Mode. Once back in standard mode, You'll have a selection of the type. You nee to incert the selection by choosing Select/Inverse.
- Press Delete to clear away the selected parts of the type. Then, ctrl+D to deselect. You should have something like this.
- Make a copy of the text layer, you can right-click it and select duplicate layer or whatever method you like. Now Hide the new layer you just made.
- Activate the original text layer and ctrl+left click to select it. Once selected, go to Select/Modify/Expand and choose a
value, we choose 8. Then, fill the selection with black.
- Turn the text copy back on and active the layer. Ctrl+left click to load the selection of the text copy layer. Now double-click
the Gradient Tool and look at the Options Palette.
Click on edit to create your own gradient or select a premade one. Now
fill the selection with your gradient. Once you've filled the
selection, ctrl+D to deselect.
- Now,
you can dress this up a bit by going back to the black layer, and
creating a white 'shadow' for the text. We also added a drop shadow,
we'll cover that in an upcoming tutorial, but you can use the
Layer/Effects/Drop Shadow if you like. For the title of this page, we
added some color and a litle texture.
