Part 1 of the texturising-tutorial, where I explain how to create a texture and where to begin. This is a very easy tutorial to start with, but the next parts are a bit harder then this one...
Textures 1# Basic Textures
Part 1 of the texturising-tutorial: In this part: Basic Tiles.
Note: The textures I explain in this tutorial are meant as meshes and textures for 3d-models. This is what I have been learning at school. (eg. I study GameDesign) Since textures are made with Photoshop and help you learn Photoshop better, I think this is great to learn even though the purposes are mostly 3d. I am going to teach you how to make textures of 128x128!
Step 1
First of all, you need to decide what to make. What kind of texture, what kind of theme, what kind of style. I will choose the theme "City". I will use a realistic style and I will make a mud/dirt-texture! Once you got that settled, check Google or Stock-images sites for stocks of textures and images of stuff that looks like the texture you are going to make. Don't worry, every texturiser does it and that's what stocks are for.
Step 2
Once you got your texture (Mine has stones), resize it if needed.
Step 3
Use CTRL+U to change the color of your texture. (I made mine look darker and more gray)
Step 4
I wanted to have a muddey/squishy feel, so I placed a Plastic-Wrap over it.
