I'm into the spirit of the 4th of July here in the States, and wanted to share with you how I created an awesome collage. This tutorial will focus on layers, layer styles, masks and photo manipulation.
Use brush on old fashioned, real white paper to make some more or less straight lines. Scan them in gray or B&W mode on 300 pix/inch resolution.
You should get an image that looks like this:
Step 1. Make a new document fill it with any color and using the round rectangular tool on a new layer with the settings below make a shape and then press ctrl+click on the layer to select the shape and then go to Filter>Render>Clouds.
1. Start a new document with 60x10 and select Transparent
2. Use the rectangular marquee tool and draw a 30px by 10px selection on your canvas. Then fill it with black. Now, go to Edit->Define Pattern.

1. Select Brush tools and then right click on the background and select Spatter 14 pixels
2. Then draw something on the brush.
3. Go to Filter > Artistic and select Sponge an then do the next step.
