Here we'll create a wooden woman.
1) Get two images, here i use a picture of a woman and a picture of wood(the wood is not that good,but oh well,i wanted to make it pretty quick).
2) Bring both of the images in photoshop, open a pretty big new file, transparent...

Create a apply a gradient to the background.
Create two twirl shapes using custom shape tool. Reduce the opacity to 20%.
Create a rectangle using rectangular shape tool.
