1. Start off by making a good template-sized document. I'll use 740 x 620, but we'll only be using the top, unless you want to put in the navigation as well.
Make a crooked selection at the top of the document like so:
2. On a new layer fill the selection with #903e28.
Apply the following layer styles to the layer:
Make a new layer and do some grunge brushing inside of the selection (If you deselected, you can reselect it by holding CTRL and clicking the layer thumbnail.)
Set the Layer Mode for the grunge brushing layer to Soft Light and lower the opacity to what you see is fit.
3. Go to TheDesignWorld.com and get this render. Drag the render onto the canvas, flip it 90CW or 90CCW.
Make a selection a bit smaller than the header (crooked selection)
With the Polygonal Lasso Tool still out, right click the selection and click "Select Inverse" then press Delete.
On the 'render' layer, apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise with the following settings:
Set the layer mode to Soft Light and lower the opacity to 85%.
Use a layer mask or the eraser tool to get rid of a bits with either a big soft brush or some grunge brushes.
4. Make a slightly crooked square selection in the middle of the banner, fill it with white (#FFFFFF)
Apply the following layer styles:
Now you can add text and any other creative bits you can think of!
